There are only two Ohrid families, Filevi and Talevi, who keep the secret recipe of making Ohrid pearls. They carried over this handcraft to three generations.
KETTLE CRAFT
In the past kettles where made only by the vlachs who came from Krushevo, but soon afterwards people from Ohrid started this craft, too. At first, the material for manufacture of the kettles was brought from Thessalonica. Later they provided it from Prilep, where a smelter for old copper existed. Most of the tools used in the craft where hand made, but now there are also made in factories.
They used to manufacture different products for the needs of the customers such as big and small copper pans, kettles, jugs, plates, scale pans, pots, coffee pots and also kettles for making brandy which where the most expensive.
Nowadays Ohrid kettle craftsmen, as a result of the modern way of living and the needs of the market, try to comply with the requirements of the tourists and manufacture mostly souvenirs like coffee sets, decorative vases, boils, narrow-necked vessels and others.
